    Description

    Historic Circa 1920’s TWO GREY HILLS / TOADLENA / CRYSTAL NAVAJO RUG 83” x 54” –
    Water Bugs & Whirling Logs
Certainly a rare offering of Historic American Indian Art.  Circa 1920’s, attributed to the T
WO GREY HILLS / TOADLENA / CRYSTAL
    Weaving Area, 83” x 54” -
    Warp 10 & Weft 38 (averaging).
It is in very good condition and with only slight wear over the last 100 years.
No A/B side difference.  Two small areas (8”x4”) of wear to wool field, minimal, but worth mentioning.  Old longstanding weaving repairs to several small sections along both side selvages.  Old whipstitch repair to 29” of lower right side selvage.  Cleaned and corner tassels replaced by Robert Mann Rugs a few years ago.  Sporting a negative field background layout, with both floating and border attached elements, and additionally demonstrating Crystal Area design roots with the presence of Water Bugs & Whirling Logs.
    Very finely woven
native hand shorn, hand carded and handspun very smooth long and stable fine quality sheep wool (churro).
Warp selvages are 2 spiral cords each 2-ply Z-spin and S-twist.  Weft selvages are 2 spiral cords each 2 ply Z-spin and S-twist.
The all-natural colors are notable -  creamy ivory white, and variegated chocolate brown with four, maybe 5 different blended shades which give a tremendous presence.  Rarity and artwork of the weaving make this historical masterwork very collectible and a great investment.  Complete with lazy lines and a very nice patina & shine to the old wool,
this nice example of antique Native Americana is ready to display.
Normal wear, tear and losses commensurate with age of artifact.
