Up for your consideration is a set of two reproduction M1911 .45 ACP 20 round ammunition cartons, with pre-war (late 1930s) FRANKFORD ARSENAL (F A) "ROLL-TESTED" labels.
In the late 1930s, it was discovered that M1911 .45 ACP rounds produced at Frankford Arsenal may have had powder overcharges caused by a malfunctioning loading machine., resulting in blown-up pistols. The method devised to test for a proper charge was to roll the rounds down a polished ramp, usually glass. The spot at the bottom of the ramp where the cartridge came to rest determined whether a round had a light, excessive or normal powder charge. Special "check" cartridges were used to verify the testing accuracy. Testing was done at all ordnance facilities in the continental U.S., and overseas possessions. After roll testing, a new lot number would be assigned and a new label attached to the carton which contained the roll test reference.
Each "Buy It Now" single purchase is for 2 unassembled cartons with dividers and labels. The label represents rounds manufactured in the 1930s at Frankford Arsenal that were roll tested and then had a new label attached to the carton. The cartons, dividers and labels will be shipped flat, with assembly instructions, and the shipping is free within the U.S. I had a lot of these made, so if you want multiple sets, just change the purchase quantity before you click on the "Buy It Now" button.
